Re: Philosophy Nature vs Convention
Hunter I would say its more of a struggle that arises when we probe for truth and find it conflicts with the convention our environments give us

Convention is what we are TAUGHT to believe, so we believe it (usually out of our ignorance)
Nature is what we naturally do, which usually goes against convention, causing tension
that help?

Re: Philosophy Nature vs Convention
Could you say like
Socrates went against convention when he questioned all the supposed wise people to find out the nature of things, thus breaking the laws of the town...(introducing new gods)

Re: Philosophy Nature vs Convention
Ok since there are a bunch of conflicting answers and some of them are wrong, here it is.
Convention and social conditioning are what we are brought up in. Convention is something that is agreed upon for a long time by a lot of people. Eventually convention is so ingrained it is looked on as absolute truth or goodness. An example is a government which is flawed but ancient and so is hard to overturn. But in the search for truth, no biases can be included. So if convention and social conditioning are wrong, you have to say as much. But if these have been around for a long time and powerful people have grown to love them, it can get you in a lot of trouble to declare the truth. Just look at Socrates and Athens...

That's ok I didn't understand your answer anyway lmao.
Oh, and one more thing...What is the core of the communism arguement? Is it that we need private property to control or wickedness (since all people are unjust/selfish by nature)?

I did take notes...I just have some questions because I can't write every little detail down when he talks so fast. Besides, isn't the point of this forum to ask questions lol.
