English Review
1) Odysseus does not take Kalypso’s offer of immortality for many reasons. Odysseus is born as a solider or warrior and he thrives for adventure, but he can not obtain this when all he does is linger with Kalypso. Also he wishes for his homecoming as seen in the text.
2) Athena enchances Odysseus’s beauty when he steps out to meat Nausicca. Nausicca is given courage by Athena to talk to Odysseus even though he just emerged from the brush. Odysseus supplicates Nausicca by comparing her to the godess Artemis for Artemis is beautiful but holy and untouched while if Odysseus said Aphrodities it would seem like he is only after her for her looks. He also compares her to a young tree he saw that was sturdy like her, but he also mentions this tree was in a palace where he was which shows that he is noble and good. He also tells her a little of his hard journey which makes her feel even more remorseful.
3) First of all Athena helps Odysseus receive presents along the way so that he does not return home empty handed. With the Phaikians she makes sure many are gathered to hear Odysseus and give him gifts and also she trys to build up his status by marking his discus throw. Also Athena trys to make sure Telemachus is ready and sturdy so they can reunite to destroy the suitros upon the day of his homecoming. Also makes sure that Penelope stays faithful no matter what happens.
4) Odysseus is trying to protect Naussica from her father. If they come in together Alkinoos would know that Naussica lied about going down to the river for clothes. Also Odysseus doesnt want Naussica to be publicly humiliated for he needs her to like him so he still recieves her help. Alkinoos knows he is lying, but he does not call odysseus out for he sees wat he is doing.
5) When Alkinoos’s sons possie offends Odysseus it is a young thoughtless act like when a child taunts his elder to race him. Odysseus of course is offended by the challenge but he grants the youth the pleasure of the games. The suitors are older than Telemachus and are suppose to be the new age of Ithaca. They are foolish, but they have the power in Ithaca. With the Phaikians Alkinoos still holds the power unlike in Ithaca where the suitors lay.
6) Homer trys to foreshadow the possibility that Penelope could be sleeping with another man and plotting to kill odysseus when he returns. Odysseus probably listens to this song fearfully while Demodokus is merely trying to lighten the mood after the tension between Odysseus and the Phaikian youth
7) Elpenor asks Odysseus to return to Circe’s island and give his body a proper burial and ceremony. If Odysseus does not do this Elpenor fears that he will become a curse to Odysseus while he travels afar also mr neid mentioned the furies going after people in this situation, but it is not mentioned in the text.
Laertes remains on the estate and does not go into town. In the winter time he sleeps on the dirt next to the fire and doesn’t go into town for there is no bed for him there. He has foul clothing too, but in the summer he wishes for Odysseus’s homecoming and his old age withers him down.
9) If he is unable to restrain his men then Teiresias says his ship and companions will be destroyed, and if he alone gets clear he will return home in a bad case in someone else’s ship with the loss of all his companions and there will be people in his house eating his goods and courting his wife.
10) If he makes it back to Ithaca he will die with his family away from the sea in his house and in old age in an unwarlike way.
11) Agamemnon says to not trust women and that when Odysseus comes home he should return secretly and ready for an attack. He also warns Odysseus to not tell his wife everything but tell her part of it but keep some secret.
12) Odysseus tells Achilles of Neoptolemos his son. He says that he was good at speaking and was always leading the charge against the enemies. He killed many brave opponents and he was eager in the Trojan Horse while others were scared. He was one of the finest men’s Odysseus had seen.

For number 1 does your answer have any textual evidence? Mr.Nied seems to REALLY want that. So it would be nice if someone found some to support his answer or a different one, whatever works.

Well it seems to have something to do with the greek concept of accomplishment as the highest objective. And the fact that when Odysseus becomes immortal, he no longer can obtain kleos/arete/glory/whatever the heck its called.

I think it has something to do with Odysseus wanting to accomplish his homecoming

i disagree with your answer for number 1. In the odyssey, he says "I've already had so many troubles, and I've worked so hard through waves and warfare. Let what's yet come be added in with these."

he's been through so much, longing for home everyday in the same spot on the island. what's the point of everything he's done if he just gives it all up for someone he does not truly love?

this can just be tacked on to your answer...but i couldn't find evidence in the text to back what you said up, which is what he said we shouldn't do.

1. Odyesseus was imprisoned on the island of Ogygia by the nymph Calypso. He has no ship or crew to escape . Zeus sends Hermes to persuade Calypso to free Odysseus.
2. Poseidon shipwrecks Odysseus after he leaves Ogygia and he ends up on the island of Scheria, home of the Phaecicans. Athena helps him to earn the trust of Nuasicaa, the daughter of the king, and he proceeds to meet the king. He supplicates him and he agrees to send him home.

4. Odyesseus entered the city alone without Nausicaa so she is not seen entering with a stranger.
5. Odysseus is invited to feast and watch the games with Alkinoos. But some punk named Brodsea says hes a coward for not participating- he shows him up and all the other punks on the island beating them in every event. Alkinoos says he was stupid and invites Odysseus to a feast. Then he says that the Phaeaeans are good at things like dancing not athletics
6. Demodokus sing about the affair between Aphrodite and Ares. We are meant to think that this refers to Penelope being alone with all of the suitors and that she might have betrayed Odysseus. Aphrodite cheats on Hephaestus and he catches her and Ares in a magic invisible web and all of the gods laugh at them.
7. When Odysseus travels to the underworld, he encounters the soul of Elpenor who tells him to return to Circes island and he returns to cremate it in order to avoid a lifelong curse. He also encounters Tiresias the prophet who tells him that he cannot touch the flock of
8. Odysseus speaks to his mother and then she tells him that Laertes has pretty much become a decrepit old man and that he longs for Odysseus’s homecoming
9. During his encounter Tiresias informs Odysseus that touching the flock of Helios will lead to suffering for his men and will put leave him cheated on by his wife.
10. He is also told by Tiresias he will die at home away from the sea meaning in a peaceful non warlike way
11. Agamemnon tells Odysseus that all women have a base evil and have been defiled by his wifes actions which have forever marred women everywhere
12. While in the underworld, he also tells Achilles that his son is a great warrior and man and that he is strong
